An Old Bloke decides to learn Robotics (and web hosting and WordPress) from scratch
I was introduced to 3D printing just over a year ago and ordered my own printer the next day. I had long been fascinated by Boston Robotics’ work and decided to learn robotics by building a robot dog. My plan was/is to document the learning process and see how many mistakes I could make so others may avoid them.
After many blunders I decided to create a (mostly) novel design which I christened SpotCorgi. This design is inspired by the SpotMicro model by KDY0523 but using all new parts except for the legs which have been shortened to reduce servo load. The hip joints have been removed and replaced by bearing-supported fixed angle joints. The base plate has been designed to include a holder for 4 x 18650 batteries, a power regulator, PCA9685 servo controller and Nano. The redesign of the baseplate means it becomes the main structural component allowing for the side panels and end plates to be reduced in size and printed at lower density to reduce weight.
Some photos on Thingiverse show the development chassis using an off-board Mega for control. The Nano is placed to show position but is not connected. For better images, videos, the history of the project and its current state see the videos listed below.
Please note: This website is hosted from a 5yr old laptop in my workshop running Webmin/Virtualmin on Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS on a (currently) non-static IP so may go down for brief periods. Just another learning experience. UPDATE: I’ve signed up with Dynu DNS which automatically updates the site’s DNS when my ISP changes my IP.
